I had a unique opportunity recently to complete a Winter shoot in Petoskey. Now, neither completing Petoskey Portrait Photography nor Winter shoots are unusual, however, what was unusual was the subject and specific weather. This was a graduation shoot that needed to be done ASAP regardless of the weather conditions, cold or snowy we needed to shoot that day. My client had nearly run out of time to submit images for inclusion on the school site, etc. I had other shoots scheduled that day, however, thankfully both were able to be rescheduled so I could complete this very important shoot.
The air temperature hovered around the 3 degree mark for most of the relatively brief shoot. Normally I would suggest a more detailed approach to a graduation shoot with multiple locations, possibly even multiple days, etc. That’s a luxury we did not have. We needed to shoot at one location and make the best of the surroundings. Luckily, having shot a great deal of Petoskey Portrait Photography I knew of exactly the place. It offered lake front, cityscape and wooded locations within 100 yards of each other.
My client and her mother were 2 of friendliest people I have worked with in a long time. The girl had brought multiple outfits to change into and did so several times without hesitation in their vehicle in the bitter cold. Similarly, she was open to every idea I suggested about different looks, poses, etc. as we shot. Given the weather conditions a great deal of the reason the shoot was a success was due to her willingness to hear my opinions and her mother’s upbeat attitude. They clearly had decided to make this an exciting event to remember and I believe that it ended up to be just that.
The best part of that entire shoot, other than my clients and be lucky enough to live in the Gold Coast area of Northern Michigan was that it reminded me why I got into photography in the first place. Beyond my desire to create art with my cameras, I entered the profession for the people…. My clients, people that I would never typically meet without being in this profession that requires complete “audience participation” to succeed. I’ve met a LOT of great people in over 20 years of photography in many locations, however, the Petoskey Portrait Photography I experienced that day was one of the best.
