I have completed a large number of shoots for clients specifically requesting Commercial Real Estate Photography. My clients are typically professional investors, corporate lawyers, government officials or, in many cases just a person that needs to purchase a building and wants detailed images of the entire facility. These shoots can be, although not always, time consuming, requiring in depth research and review. The complexity of the shoot certainly dictates the amount of time needed and quite honestly the most enjoyable are usually the people that just want to buy a bar or hardware store and need beautiful descriptive images.
I had the opportunity recently to complete a client shoot at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. It was the pinnacle of Commercial Real Estate Photography in my humble opinion. I had previous experience at Mayo Clinic so the facility and surroundings where not new to me. Having said that it was impossible to not be overwhelmed when viewing the exterior of the main and surrounding buildings with the magnificent facades some dating back to Mayo Clinic’s initial construction in 1912. The interiors of the buildings are equally as breath taking with abundant marble and opulent lobbies and impressive high ceilings.
My client had specific requests for a project that I am not at liberty to divulge, however, it was an exciting shoot for me without question. I completed the exterior first which was a multi-day project. Playing with different times of day to capture the same angle in different light which completely changed the feel of the image. Next came the interior which encompassed a solid week of wandering, fully credentialed for full access, the facilities working with incoming window light and flash as well. In total I took several thousand images many of which were used by my client. I intend to create a gallery on my portfolio site to display the images.
Commercial Real Estate Photography can provide some very unique opportunities and a niche in the photography business that some photographers will not pursue. If you have any questions about this blog or to schedule a shoot, contact me anytime.
