Probably one of the most mispronounced city names in Michigan and yet one of the most traveled to destinations in the Country every year, Mackinac (Mack-i-naw) City is an incredible location for a photo shoot. The scenery is endless and the shear number of stunning visuals to use as backdrop is staggering. I’ve completed hundreds of Mackinac City Photo Shoots over the years and still find new places, new angles every time.
Perhaps one of the best perks of a shoot in that area is the attitude of the participants. It’s hard to imagine anyone being anything but damn happy to be in that area at that specific moment. As a massive tourist destination, the city is awash with vacationers from every corner of the globe. I’ve shot portraits there for people from many States throughout the Country and many Countries from around the World. The entire vibe there is simply one of happiness and awe. Happiness from being on vacation and awe from the many historical sites in the area.
The Mackinac Bridge is unquestionably the top draw to the area. The bridge opened in 1966 and crosses 5 miles of the Straits of Mackinac. It is the largest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere and the 3rd longest bridge of any kind in the United States. There are multiple public viewing sites on both sides of the bridge that provide excellent opportunities for images for professional and amateur photographers alike.
Mackinac Crossings is a very popular area as well. Every year I receive requests to complete Mackinac City Photo Shoots with the Mackinac Crossings as a backdrop. Its a outdoor market with permanent buildings much like a decent sized mall with no roof. There are places to eat, purchase souvenirs, buy clothing, enjoy a man made water fall and listen to live music as well. It’s a great place and visitors to the area love the outdoor atmosphere all within sight of the Straits of Mackinac and the Mackinac Bridge.
The entire Mackinac area is an outstanding place to visit any time of the year. I perform shoots there year round, every season is inviting in that area. If you would like additional information about Mackinac City and the surround areas or would like to schedule a shoot, contact me and I will answer your questions for you.
